Time flies when you’re having fun. The students are reading a story out of the Junior Great Books series called Through the Tunnel. As I write this my third core class is partnered up and reading outloud while taking notes on the maturity of the main character.
Assignment
Today they got an introduction to a new assignment in writing where they were asked to persuade the principal to add a new class, activity or sport. This assignment will be due Monday at the end of class and will be assessed solely on their use of the elaboration strategies in their letter.
I will be gone tomorrow while I take care of our baby Theo while my wife participates in a conference in Vancouver B.C. all weekend.

We are done with DIBELS! All students received their Oral Reading Fluency score and wrote it in their agendas. I will be sending home a paper with more explanation regarding the score and a graph where the student will chart their progress for the year (we do DIBELS again in January and May).
The Highly Capable core class had their first taste of debate this year while debating whether the city of the future in Uglies was “paradise” or not. The other core classes began reading a section of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer so we could practice before reading strategies like predicting and then we will go over answer questions fully and completely.
Assignment
Students have an assignment tonight due tomorrow. They practiced editing with an assignment called “Editor in Chief” and they are responsible for rewriting the corrected version on their paper.
