The Highly Capable Core class at 6th grade is designed to meet the needs of these students selected into the program, namely:

• Acceleration of pace
• Providing intellectual peers
• A higher level of difficulty

How that is accomplished is by allowing opportunities for students to work with their academic peers in groups, providing leadership roles, and building community within the class.

The 6th grade core curriculum is also modified through:

• Acceleration: adjusting the pace of learning and instruction.
• Enrichment
• Sophistication: adding complexity and abstraction
• Novelty: learning opportunities that are not within the curriculum
