Updates

Well, I added Twitter to my site and if the district didn’t block access from inside the classroom I might update it more frequently. As it is it’s a pain but I’ll see how it works. I’m mainly testing it to see how one would use Twitter as a teacher.

In other news, we are still WASL-ing with one more Reading and Writing test each to go. Part of me wishes that all my students could take their tests with me and there is some research out there that shows that if a student is going to take a test in an unfamiliar environment they have to practice in an unfamiliar environment first in order for it to be effective. However, another part of me realizes that my presence alone is not going to make that much difference and it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that you are.

Some students are also creating entries for the SLMS Writing competition and those are due May 1st by 3:00pm. I am giving them some time in class to do these or their own writing project. If they do their own project they have the choice of topic and style, meaning what they write about and how they write it. These are also due on the 1st and will be scored with the 6 Traits rubric. If a student chooses to do the contest instead of the project their grade will not suffer but I will not be grading their contest entry since that would invalidate the point of having a contest.

DIBELS testing is coming in May and you may have already received some emails from me asking for help with supervision although that is already taken care of by now as I got lots of great responses offering help.

Grades are due next Thursday for the progress report that will be sent home soon after that.
